Saud Usmani; a Famous Young Urdu Poet

Saud Usmani is a well known poet of Pakistan. His two books of poetry have been published. He belongs to the well educated and well reputed Usmani family migrated from Deoband, Saharanpur, India.

Saud Usmani was born in Lahore in December 6th. He is the son of well known poet Muhammad Zakki Kayfi, whose book “Kaifiyyat” has got acknowledgement from Urdu scholars like Ihsan Danich and Mahir Ul Qadri. Saud Usmani is the nephew of the famous Islamic Scholars Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani, the grand Mufti of Pakistan and Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani. He is the grandson of Mufti Muhammad Shafi. His elder brother Shiekh Mufti Mahmood Ashraf is also a well known religious scholar of Hadith and Fiqh and is teaches the famous Hadees book Saheeh Bukhari in Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi, the most famous Islamic Institute in Pakistan.

Saud,s father was born in Deoband India and migrated to Pakistan in late 40s and settled in Lahore instead of Karachi, where his father Mufti Muhammad Shafi and other brothers settled.

Saud Usmani has done MBA from the University of Punjab and running his own business of book selling and publishing. He, with the partnership of his brothers, is running a publishing house namely Idara Islamiat, Anar Kali, Lahore, which has branches in Karachi and Lahore.

His first book of poetry Qaus was given the best book of the year Award by the Government of Pakistan in 1997. And next book “Baarish was awarded the best poetry of 2007.

He is very popular in the poetry circle of Pakistan and India. The big figures of Urdu like Late Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi and Amjad Islam Amjad have acknowledged his poetry. His uncle Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, who himself is a good poet, has praised his poetry and liked that.

He is often called in Musha’ira gatherings and listened to very eagerly. Some of his Ghazals from “Qaus” got a great fame. Critics say that he is the future star of Urdu poetry in Pakistan.
