Samina Raja; a Column by Amjad Islam Amjad on Samina Raja's Demise

Samina Raja (Urdu: ثمینہ راجہ ‎‎ 11 September 1961 – 30 October 2012) was a Pakistani poet, writer, editor, translator, educationist and broadcaster. She wrote in Urdu. She lived in Islamabad, Pakistan and worked in the National Language Authority as a Subject Specialist. 

Miss Raja passed away on October 30th, 2012 due to cancer in Islamabad at the age of 51. Her demise left her huge readership across the globe where Urdu is read and many of men of liter have express their grief on her demise.

Wasif

Wasif Ali Wasif (15 January 1929 – 18 January 1993) was a teacher, writer, poet and sufi from Pakistan. He was famous for his unique literary style. 

He used to write short pieces of prose on topics like love, life, fortune, fear, hope, expectation, promise, prayer, happiness, sorrow and so on. He was the regular columnist of Pakistani Urdu newspaper Daily Nawa-i-Waqt. His 1st column named "Mohabat". In his life most of his columns were combined to form books with his own selected title. He did poetry in Urdu and Punjabi languages.

Ata Ul Haq Qasmi, a renowned Urdu humorist, poet and columnist have written a column on Hazrat wasif Ali Wasif. The column appeared In Daily Jang Lahore couple of weeks back.

I had chosen that column to post here but could not do so as I was regularly posting some other important and interesting posts.

A Hameed

Abdul Hameed better known as A Hameed (Urdu: اے۔ حمید) was a popular Urdu fiction writer from Lahore, Pakistan who has written over 200 books.

His first collection of short stories Manzil Manzil got a great acclaim from the readers and made him a well recognized romantic short story writer.

He has written more than 200 books. Urdu She'r Ki Dastan, Urdu Nasr ki Dastan, Mirza Ghalib, Dastango Ashfaq Ahmad and Mirza Ghalib Lahore mai are his most famous books.

A Hameed died on 28 April 2011 in Lahore. Ataul Haq Qasmi, a well known Urdu writer and columnist has written about A Hameed in Daily Jang. I am going to post the column here. I hope you will like it. Here you go!!

Aali Writes about Shan Ul Haq Haqqi

Dr. Shan Ul Haq Haqqi

Dr. Shanul Haq Haqqi (Urdu: شان الحق حقی), Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Quaid-i-Azam, was a notable Urdu poet, writer, journalist, broadcaster, translator, critic, researcher, linguist and lexicographer of Pakistan.

Born in Delhi, Haqqee acquired his BA from Aligarh Muslim University. He obtained a Master's in English literature from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. He was a scion of a great literary family from Delhi. His father, Maulvi Ehtashamuddin Haqqee, wrote short stories, a study of Hafez, Tarjuman-ul-Ghaib, a translation of Diwan-i-Hafiz in verse and compiled a dictionary.

Mr. Haqqi has done his mother tongue a great service in the field of lexicography and linguistics. In addition to his regular professional duties, he remained associated with the Urdu Dictionary Board for 17 years from 1958 to 1975, compiling a monumental 24-volume dictionary, which may term as his labor of love. Apart from Urdu Dictionary Board’s work, Haqqi Sahib compiled two dictionaries. Farhang-e-Talaffuz is a pronouncing dictionary of Urdu published by National Language Authority. The Oxford English-Urdu Dictionary, a phenomenal work that instantly became a ‘must’ for every scholar and student of Urdu, is a translation of the eighth & ninth editions of Concise Oxford English Dictionary.

Jameeluddin Aali

Jameeluddin Aali; a big figure of Urdu Adab in this time has written a column about Shan Ul Haq Haqqi in daily Jang, Karachi. I consider that column a good brief about Haqqi's life and work.

We can find something about Haqqi's family back ground, A little about his father and his contribution to Urdu under Molvi Abdul Haq.

The column tells that Haqqi became a big name in Urdu literature because he was sincere with Urdu and never give up hard work even when he was suffering from lung cancer and spending last days of his life.

Anees Nagi was a great figure of Urdu Adab in Pakistan. He was very popular for his boldness and daring personality. He always expressed what he felt and never cared what people will think about him and how they would react.

Unfortunately we have lost this rare personality and now he is no longer with us. On October 7th 2010 this man passed away of a heart attack in Lahore.

Anees Nagi may not be included in the big names of Urdu Adab but he would always remembered for his personal qualities which are very rare in the men of liter.
